Compare the features, size, dining, bars, pools, and activities of two Carnival ships: the Magic and the Mardi Gras. See the pros and cons of each ship and find out which one suits your cruise preferences. The Carnival Mardi Gras has a total of 6 pools and 7 hot tubs. 2 of the pools are exclusive access, which means there's either an extra charge to access them or you need to book a certain class of cabin to have access to them. Carnival Magic has fewer pools than the Mardi Gras and more hot tubs. Mardi Gras has the best food out of all Carnival ships. She has 22 different dining venues to choose from, including more interesting options such as Emeril’s Bistro, a New-Orleans inspired venue. Food on board is varied, although reviews do criticize portion sizes across the whole Carnival fleet. 8-day Carnival Magic from Norfolk, VA, itinerary includes Half Moon Cay, Amber Cove, and Grand Turk. I like the extra day and *love* the itinerary. I don't like that Serenity doesn't have a pool, as I spent a big chunk of my time there. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice,looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. The Mardi Gras is also over 40% bigger than the Vista Class ships and will have different food and entertainment options. We enjoyed our 2 Horizon cruises staying in the Havana area, but tastes evolve and that's why our next two Carnival cruises are on the first two Excellence Class ships.
