I did like the glass door shower compared to the previous curtain on older Carnival ships, but the bathroom was very narrow on Mardi Gras. Crowds: I think crowd management was better on Oasis vs Mardi Gras. It seemed like every spot of open deck space on Mardi Gras had a bar in it, which limited space and made it difficult to relax. Carnival Celebration, Jubilee, and Mardi Gras, Carnival’s largest ships, have a gross tonnage of 183,000, or about 75% of the size of Royal’s largest ship. And this is just one example. When it comes to size, Royal Caribbean ships definitely have an edge. Of course, with larger ships you can pack a lot more onto the vessel. it's actually such a shame carnival didn't go forward with their ambitious pinnacle project in the mid-2000s when they had a design that would put their stamp on the industry, well before the oasis class debuted. if only they pushed forward and we all could've maybe had 5-6 Mardi Gras ships The 9/11 attacks definitely set back the industry. The Excel-class ship, Mardi Gras, is a 181,000 gross ton vessel and the sister ship to the latest Carnival Jubilee. These ships can carry 5,374 passengers at double capacity and are 1,130 feet Nothing on Celebration/Mardi Gras compared to it. I see why they have Utopia going back and forth from it every 3/4 days, it's a huge draw. Not sure about the kids part of that either. Both are great, overall experience wise I'd give Wonder 8/10 and Celebration/Mardi Gras 8.5/10 On the flip side, Carnival Mardi Gras is the second largest vessel in Carnival’s fleet, only coming in second to sister-ship Carnival Celebration. We just got off the Mardi Gras.. first time sailing carnival in 10 years because we prefer rc. Mardi Gras is a beautiful ship and does pack in a lot of fun but we found two main differences.. royal Caribbean room size is far superior.. we booked an ocean suite for mg and it was almost half the width of rc suites.
