It’s no surprise that Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line are two of the most popular cruise lines in the world. This is especially true in comparison of each cruise line’s biggest and most modern cruise ships. After sailing on both, Carnival Mardi Gras and Harmony of the Seas showcase the best-of-the-best from each cruise line. I’m trying to decide which to book : The Carnival’s Mardi Gras or Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the seas. I love the thought of a new ship with the new roller coaster. But with carnival I’m finding a lot of the entertainment is the same. I will sail on my first Royal Caribbean cruise in September on the Allure of the seas. We go over ship lay We just got off the Mardi Gras.. first time sailing carnival in 10 years because we prefer rc. Mardi Gras is a beautiful ship and does pack in a lot of fun but we found two main differences.. royal Caribbean room size is far superior.. we booked an ocean suite for mg and it was almost half the width of rc suites. All told, the top six largest cruise ships on the planet belong to Royal Caribbean. Carnival Celebration, Jubilee, and Mardi Gras, Carnival’s largest ships, have a gross tonnage of 183,000, or about 75% of the size of Royal’s largest ship. And this is just one example. When it comes to size, Royal Caribbean ships definitely have an edge. Carnival is much better at included, casual food, Royal is better if you like paying extra for speciality dining. Harmony and Wonder really don't have great views of the ocean, Celebration does that better offering impressive views. Harmony does not have an adult only pool (for when kids are in kids club) but the rest of the ships do. The Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas has 4 more bars than the Carnival Mardi Gras. The Symphony of the Seas has 20 bars like Pool Bar, Suite Sun Deck Bar and Vintages. On Symphony of the Seas, you can grab a drink at 16 different bars such as Center Stage, Fahrenheit 555 Bar and Havana Bar. There's a lot more to do on Harmony but Mardi Gras isn't bad and is a fun ship. I also like that Mardi has several specialty dining places included so you can eat there for lunch/dinner and not pay whereas you would pay for similar venues on Harmony (though they have a lot of free options too). FYI Royal uses dynamic pricing and Carnival doesn't. The Carnival Mardi Gras has 2 fewer bars than the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. In most cases, they lead the way. They literally invented the modern mega ship with Oasis and gave Carnival (and others) the blueprint on modern cruising not just being for the "Newly wed and nearly dead."
