With Carnival suspending operations until February 2021, Mardi Gras will be among the early few cruise ships to begin sailings from Florida. She’ll debut on February 6 out of Port Canaveral The Carnival Mardi Gras was built in 2020. Carnival includes 27 active ships. The oldest in the fleet was built in 1996 while the newest ship was built in 2023. The average Carnival ship is 17 years old and the median build date for all active ships is 2007 In 2021, Carnival will debut the new Mardi Gras, the largest ship in the fleet.It will feature BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, as well as a variety of new dining and bar venues. Three vessels have been named Mardi Gras: Mardi Gras (1972), launched in 1960 as the liner Empress of Canada she was renamed on entering service with Carnival Cruise Line as a cruise ship in 1972. She was sold to Epirotiki in 1993 and scrapped in 2003 after a number of changes of both owner and name; Mardi Gras (2006), a bulk carrier launched Carnival Cruise Line has been around since 1972, with the first cruise setting sail on March 11, 1972.
