Celebrating the tradition of Mardi Gras in Lafayette, Louisiana since 1972 Saturday, March 1 – Krewe of Bonaparte Mardi Gras Parade – Downtown to Cajun Field, Lafayette. 6:30 p.m. KreweofBonaparte.org. Saturday, March 1 In 1972 a new Mardi Gras Krewe was established to help promote the tradition of Mardi Gras in Acadiana and to encourage Lafayette’s young citizens to participate in Mardi Gras. The Krewe of Bonaparte’s first event was a summer cocktail party held Saturday, August 5, 1972 at Oakbourne Country Club. Some 150 people attended the event. 6:30 p.m. – Krewe of Bonaparte Parade (Streets reopen briefly between parades) Monday, March 3: 6:00 p.m. – Queen Evangeline’s Parade; Tuesday, March 4 (Mardi Gras Day): 10:00 a.m. – King Gabriel’s Parade; 1:00 p.m. – Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade; 2:00 p.m. – Independent Parade; Mardi Gras Day Street Closures 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1 – Krewe of Bonaparte Mardi Gras Parade is scheduled at the intersection of Jefferson and Simcoe Streets, then along the parade route before turning into Cajun Field 6:30 p.m. – Krewe of Bonaparte Parade (Streets reopen briefly between parades) Monday, March 3: 6:00 p.m. – Queen Evangeline’s Parade Tuesday, March 4 (Mardi Gras Day): Rayne Mardi Gras Parade will roll on February 15 at 2 pm down the Boulevard and a cook off to follow at the Rayne Civic Center; Krewe of Bonaparte Parade at 6:30 pm in Lafayette; MARCH 3, 2025. The Krewe presented to the Southwest LA Mardi Gras Association with the goal and desire to participate in the Lafayette Mardi Gras. The association agreed and turned over the Monday Night Parade to Bonaparte. The original Parade route started at Pontiac Point and ended at Borden's off of Bertrand Drive.
