The Hawketts, a popular high school R&B band, recorded only one single but it was a good one – “Mardi Gras Mambo.” Released on the Chess label in 1954, it was an immediate hit. In 1976, it was recorded by the Meters, led by Art Neville who had been a member of The Hawketts. During Mardi Gras celebrations, you'll hear a whole mish-mash of party music and other genres.
