Mardi Gras Parade Schedule. Mardi Gras is more than just a day, or one week, or even a weekend. Starting January 6 (Twelfth Night), New Orleans has parades in the weeks leading up to Mardi Gras Day, which falls on March 4, 2025. Take a look at the parades below and click on each to learn more. The season begins on Jan. 6, the 12th day after Christmas, and continues until Mardi Gras, which is the final day of feasting, drinking and revelry before Ash Wednesday and the fasting associated with Lent, the Christian season of preparation for Easter. New Orleans takes Mardi Gras seriously, with traditions including king cake and parades beginning in January and lasting for weeks until the actual holiday itself. The annual parade celebrates Joan’s birthday — which, if we count back to the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc’s first procession in 2008, makes this her “Sweet Sixteen.” Coincidentally, Joan’s birthday also falls on the Twelfth Night, Louisiana’s official kick-off of the highly-anticipated Mardi Gras season. The traditional Mardi Gras treat is a twisted brioche dough filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with icing, colorful purple, green, and gold sugar, and the king cake baby. Joan of Arc is held in the French Quarter annually on January 6 in honor of the unofficial patron saint's birthday and Twelfth Night. The parade begins at 6 sharp at Jax Brewery on the corner of Decatur and Toulouse. Algiers Mardi Gras Parade and Festival. The Algiers Mardi Gras Parade and Festival will be back on Saturday, February 1 at New Orleans Federal City in Algiers. Entertainment will include Brass-A-Holics, Amanda Shaw, The U.S. Marine Reserve Jazz Band and more. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and the Festival begins at 10 a.m. Twelfth Night, January 6. While Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) is February 25 this year, the festivities actually begin much earlier.
