I can understand how a tourist/outside like yourself can think Mardi Gras and The French Quarter/Bourbon Street are one in the same, but the reality is you can experience everything Mardi Gras has to offer and be miles away from the French Quarter. I haven't been in a few years, but from what I remember you want to bring plenty of cash because the street vendors are cash only and the ATM trailers they wheel in have a $20 processing fee if you can even get cash out of them because they run off the cellphone towers, which get overloaded from all of the people trying to text titties to their friends. So I'm bringing my daughters to New Orleans to visit a friend from 2/16-2/17. How bad is traffic that soon after Mardi Gras? I totally forgot about that, now I'm getting very anxious. The weekend before Mardi Gras all the action is on this route, but Lundi and Mardi Gras most of the action is downtown. Uptown parades (the ones on St. Charles) are the ones with the big elaborate floats that throw all the beads, downtown parades (usually start in the Marigny but go through parts of the French Quarter, Treme and Bywater) are You do not need to bring beads. Most restaurants are closed, it's relatively hard to get a normal meal. Also, Mardi Gras is during the Super Bowl this year, and the Super Bowl is in New Orleans, so keep that in mind. So this is my first time going to Mardi Gras, can someone help me out with what to expect?? I’ve never been to New Orleans but I’m staying with some friends of mine in the French Quarter- I’m 23 (f) and I’ve been told that everybody sort of dresses up but will I standout if I go hard with my outfits?
