The New Orleans Halfmoons Women’s Rugby team will be hosting their annual “Throw Me Something, Rugger!” Mardi Gras Tournament on February 22, 2025. Maud The Mardi Gras Tournament The first Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament was held in the Spring of 1968 and originally probably proposed by John Healey, who had been one of the prime founders of the Southeast Louisiana College Rugby Club the previous Spring. In 1978 The New Orleans Women’s ‘Halfmoons’ Rugby Club formed and hosted its first Mardi Gras “Throw Me Something Mister” Women’s Rugby Tournament in 1980. In January, 1979, Rankin Tippins formed the Choctawhatchee Bay RFC, named after a local body of water, in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The club was later renamed the Okaloosa RFC. Where. Mardi Gras 2018 The team will travel to LaSalle Park to participate in the Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament Forty-one years after playing in the Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament, we held a virtual Mardi Gras reunion via Zoom. Some of us are still great friends and even sisters-in-law. Many of us had not connected since our playing days yet the bond we formed that 1978-79 season was still strong.
