MEET THE CEREMONY. We kick off a new ship’s career with a naming ceremony and ours are one part tradition and a lotta parts fun! On the tradition end, we get dignitaries like Mardi Gras' godmother, Miss Dominican Republic Kimberly Jiménez, and our own Chief Fun Officer Shaq to help make sure the champagne bottle gets broken just right for good luck. These new vessels will join the current Excel class ships (Carnival Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee) and be built by Meyer Werft. Although these new Carnival cruise ships are yet to be named, they are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028. At 180,000 gross tons, Mardi Gras is Carnival Cruise Line’s first true “mega ship”. I’m a fan of large cruise ships as they offer many more amenities and dining options than smaller vessels.
