I went on Mardi Gras 3 weeks ago. My wife, two young kids and me. I sailed a lot as a kid (mostly Carnival but also RC and NCL) so on the MG I went platinum. It helped a lot with the lines for embarkation, guest services and disembarking. However, you’re right on. It’s quite crowded and the elevators are too small. This was going to be our 2nd and 3rd cruise with Carnival with our only other cruise being on Norwegian. We haven't cruised Carnival since 2013 so a lot of changes have come about. Cruise: 7 Day on the Mardi Gras 7-14 May (Nassau, Amber Cove, Grand Turk). We booked a standard balcony room in mid-forward on the 14th floor. I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. We are planning on sailing June 2022 for our 30th anniversary and decided last night on the Mardi Gras! We saw 2 cabins- deck 11 ( cabin 11300) and deck 14 (cabin 14333.) The deck 11 cabin is closer to the elevators and is a connecting cabin. I am kind of concerned about noise from both. It is al The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice, looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. I'm stuck picking between Vista and Mardi Gras for myself, wife, and sons (4 and 6). Picking between Vista family harbor cove balcony or family harbor ocean view deluxe. and then on the mardi gras either family harbor ocean view or a higher up extended balcony. Which ship is better suited for kid Conclusion- yes the Mardi Gras is a huge ship, really never felt over crowded despite all the people on it. Room design/setup is horrible, reverse couch and bed and would be great. Food as a whole was much improved and plenty to be had even at 12 a.m. and who doesn't like free soft serve ice cream and cookies for late night snack. Carnival Mardi Gras. May 5, 2021 #1 I am booked on the Carnival Madri Gras sailing July 24th from Port Canaveral. Facebook Twitter Reddit Pinterest Tumblr If you cruise for the food and drinks, Mardi Gras will not let you down. Our meal at Rudi's Sea Grill was the best dining experience I've ever had on Carnival. So many good dining options onboard is a huge plus. Shaq's Big Chicken is the best fast food at sea. Emeril's is great for New Orleans style seafood. Aalborg's carnival is the largest in Northern Europe, with up to 60,000 participants in the Grand Parade and more than 100,000 spectators watching the magnificent wave of colours along the parade route. The parade moves through the streets of Aalborg and ends in Kildeparken. This will be the largest Carnival Ship I have been on. (I have been on 7 cruises in the past) The Mardi Gras has over 2500 rooms with occupancy at or above 6500 passengers. it's actually such a shame carnival didn't go forward with their ambitious pinnacle project in the mid-2000s when they had a design that would put their stamp on the industry, well before the oasis class debuted. if only they pushed forward and we all could've maybe had 5-6 Mardi Gras ships The 9/11 attacks definitely set back the industry. Overall, I don't know if your experience will be much different on Mardi Gras. The layout is totally different, but it's the same kind of experience overall. It'd be different if you were talking about Carnival's older ships for booze cruises, but the Vista should provide similar levels of service, options, and class as the Mardi Gras. It doesn't say which boat is which in the pictures, but I would go with the 7 day cruise from Port Canaveral assuming they are similarly priced. I haven't been on Mardi Gras but people have nothing but good things to say about the newer Carnival ships like Mardi Gras/Celebration. The ports on the 7 day are much better. I'm booked on the Mardi Gras in early May. This will be my third Carnival Cruise, and the previous two times I cruised I did the traditional dining, same time and place and people every day. I really enjoyed it, because I was on ships with fewer dinner options (Pride, Legend). Fun for All. All for Fun. Im going on Mardi Gras next February. Really looking forward to it. When we sailed on Mariner of the Seas at the start of the month, Mardi Gras was leaving Port Canaveral at the same time. Everyone in our group was jealous, though mostly because of the roller coaster. The roller coast looks cool, but im not excited about spending $15/ride. I was on the Mardi Gras in April and loved having a balcony. Among the other reasons listed already, it's nice to have a balcony to people watch when you are coming back to your room on port days. Carnival's balcony prices are still very reasonable when compared to RC. What they want for an ocean view balcony is outrageously expensive. The two main options we are looking at are the Carnival Mardi Gras and the Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas. However, right now with whatever sales are going on, a balcony room on the Mardi Gras would be cheaper, than an interior room on Wonder of the Seas. On carnival you can drop the kids off in the morning and pick them up at night if you want. RC closes the daycare for 2 hours during each meal, which means every 3 hours you have to pick up the kids again.
