The Germaine Cazenave Wells Mardi Gras Museum, named for successor and daughter of Count Arnaud, opened in the French Quarter restaurant on September 15, 1983. Wells reportedly reigned as queen of over twenty-two Mardi Gras balls from 1937 to 1968, more than any other women in the history of Carnival. If you’re looking to experience a piece of Mardi Gras history that’s a little “extra,” then the Germaine Cazenave Wells Mardi Gras Museum is definitely for you. It’s located at Arnaud’s Restaurant and is open to the public for free viewing daily, during normal restaurant hours: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly and 10 a.m. on Sundays. The woman who owns Arnaud's held on to the collection and the maitre di very enthusiastically led us up the stairs when we asked where the museum was.
